Calling the Doctor

About Us    |    Calling the Doctor

Sick Calls – For children who are ill and need attention the same day, please call between 8:15 to 10:30 a.m. Please don’t wait until late afternoon to call about a child who was ill during the day.

Routine Calls – After 10:30 a.m. daily, parents may call at this time to arrange well child appointments, check-ups, and take messages for the doctor regarding less urgent problems and requests for prescriptions.

Emergency Calls – These calls can be placed at anytime.

Calls After Office Hours – Someone will be available through our answering service 24 hours a day including weekends and holidays for calls concerning ill children and emergencies. Call our office number, (812) 282-1367.

At times you may find it difficult to decide when your child needs attention. At these times you should feel free to call us and describe in detail what your concerns are. The more you are able to tell us, the more accurate and meaningful our advice will be. Information to have when making your call would be your child’s age, weight, symptoms, temperature and how it was taken (oral, axillary, rectal), any medication allergies, medications you are giving your child and your pharmacy name and phone number. Please have a pen and paper available to write down any instructions.

Signs and symptoms to watch for include:
  • Irritability and inactivity which persists
  • Unusual Rash
  • Fever (rectal temperature greater than 101)
  • Lack of appetite
  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Crying that can’t be soothed
